U13 Girls shine at Raleigh
Shootout
U13G
Torre |
|
The U13
girls traveled to Raleigh NC for the 06 Raleigh
Shootout to compete in the Champions A flight
amongst some of the top U13 teams in the
country. The girls responded very well as they
played some of their best soccer of the season
and advanced to the championship game.
In pool
play Vardar opened the event by defeating the
GSA Phoenix 1-0 in a very hard fought game. The
girls then tied Team Boca in dramatic fashion as
they scored 2 late goals to tie the game 2-2. In
the third game they defeated regional rivals
MTSC Blaze 1-0. |
|
 |
|
|
|
These results placed the girls in a deadlock
with Team Boca which was resolved by penalty
kicks which the Vardar girls won on the last
kick.
The final saw the girls face a very talented and
highly ranked Chantilly Burn. The score at the
end of regulation was 1-1 and unfortunately the
girls lost 3-1 in overtime.
Congratulations
go out to the girls for a tremendous
performance.

Manchester United
Premier Cup
U14G

|
The Vardar 92 U14 Girls
team competed in the Manchester United Premier Cup over the
Memorial Day weekend. The tournament was only for U14 boys and
girls and was held at Nikes World Headquarters in Beaverton,
Oregon. The tournament was by invitation only and consisted of
the top 20 boys and girls teams from across the country. The
winners of the tournament earned all expenses paid trips to the
Manchester United Premier Cup finals in Manchester England for
the boys and to the worlds largest soccer tournament, the
Gothia Cup, in Gothenbrug, Sweden for the girls.
The Vardar girls performed exceptionally well placing 2nd
in the tournament. All teams had to play 7 games over the 5-day
tournament. In round robin play the girls went 2-1-1 and were
able to take a second place finish in their bracket, which
earned them a bid in the playoffs. From there things began to
roll. The girls defeated the Chicago Eclipse in the
quarterfinals when Anna Sieloff stopped an amazing 3 out of 6
Penalty kicks to break the 0-0 tie. The semifinals brought to
the field the Southern Cal Blues. Again, Anna Sieloff stepped
up her game, stopping 2 more PKs in the overtime shootout for
the win and chance at the finals.
The Manchester United Premier Cup Championship game saw two
talented teams, our own Vardar Girls and the Southern Cal United
girls. Both teams were equally matched and ready to play.
Shortly into the first half a bobbled ball found its way into
the net putting the Vardar girls down by one. Frantic and
intense play followed with Vardar dominating the majority of the
game. A breakaway goal by SoCal United sealed the deal late in
the second half resulting in a 2-0 loss for our Vardar girls.

The U14/15 Vardar Boys enjoyed a very successful
trip to Beaverton Oregon as they finished fifth in a field of
twenty. Playing some of the finest clubs in the nation the boys
displayed great commitment and energy compiling a 5-2 record
while allowing only 2 goals against.
In the preliminary stages the Vardar boys won
their group which consisted of: Vardar, Scott Gallagher,
Bethesda FC, Nomads FC, and the Irvine Strikers.
In the quarter-final stage the boys lost a
heartbreaker to the Arsenal in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw.
Showing great character Vardar came back to defeat So Cal United
and the Surf to claim fifth overall.
The Vardarstars organization is very proud
the accomplishments of this group of young men who represented
our club and state with great class and dignity. |
