The boys VardarStars
u12 Pogue team came away with their 2nd consecutive
tournament championship claiming the prestigious Ohio FC Nike Cup in
Dublin, Ohio the weekend of April 29-30th. Playing some of
their best soccer of the year, VardarStars Pogue opened the tournament
with a 7-0 win over regionally ranked Team Dayton in Game One and
followed it up Saturday with another dominant performance in a 6-2 win
over regionally ranked Ambassadors. In what is amounting to a great
rivalry,
VardarStars played Worthington United in the semifinals on
Sunday morning and came away with a hard fought 3-2 win on late goal
from defender Chris Lange directly off a corner kick to send the team to
the Finals. The Finals were played against Pacesetter Premier, with
VardarStars dominating possession and having numerous scoring
opportunities thwarted by a great Pacesetter keeper, Vardar was able to
score two and come away with a 2-0 shutout victory to win the Ohio FC
Nike Cup in the u12 Elite Division.
All the boys played a
great weekend of soccer with special performances on offense from Alex
Serwatka, Taylor Mazurek, Jason Stacy and Caleb Postelwaite. And
defensively, Beau Prey, Jerome Cristobal, John Wassel and Justin
Pilarski were spectacular all weekend.
